Over the course of Oktoberfest, we’ll be exploring the connection between Mexican banda and Central European brass music through a musical program of banda, polkas, marches and brass music from both sides of the Atlantic.
In the 19th century, European military bands, polkas, waltzes and other brass-band traditions became part of Mexico’s musical landscape, where they were absorbed and transformed by local musicians into something distinctly their own.
While Munich spent three months building its massive tents, Los Angeles weather made us take down our summer tent. It will be replaced by a purely decorative experiment floating around our trees, all along with three weeks of golden sunshine and starry nights!
